Efficient Environmental-Friendly Electro-Ceramics Coating Technology and Synthesis

Profile : UCAM

UCAM

The University of Cambridge (UCAM) has a major involvement in superconductivity research and was the site chosen in the UK for the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Superconductivity involving the interdisciplinary skills of five departments. UCAM has broad experience of European projects of all types: Prof. Jan E. Evetts represented the UK from 1987 to 1993 on the European Superconductivity Panel and played a major part in formulating the policy of the Commission on High Temperature Superconductivity (HTS). Dr Bartek A. Glowacki and Prof. J.E. Evetts were the first Europeans on the Board of Applied Superconductivity in USA.

ASCGThe Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy where Dr B. A. Glowacki is based has particular strength in processing, characterisation and optimisation of superconducting conductors and artefacts with the aim of achieving a target engineering specification. A number of patents have been filed on aspects of superconducting material processing. More recently UCAM, has been a major partner in the projects CONTEXT (BE-4489) and MUST (BE-3175) on production of HTS coated conductors by, respectively, liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) and physical vapour deposition (PVD).

UCAM also has a major input to SCENET and the TMR Network SUPERCURRENT. Dr B.A. Glowacki brings to the project strengths in materials processing of both LTS and HTS (including metal working, powder preparation and handling, LPE, melt textured processing, advanced isothermal processing, infrared processing and spray pyrolysis).
